Expansion of the G02 Door EMS in Final Assembly for BMW Leipzig

The AFT Group has won a major contract with BMW in Leipzig. The focus of this project is the modernization and targeted expansion of the conveyor technology in the door assembly plant. Parts of the existing system date back to the year the plant was newly built (2004) and no longer meet today’s technological requirements.

Primarily, worn-out conveyor components such as lifters, EMS trolleys, and hangers are being replaced with state-of-the-art components. At the same time, discontinued components, particularly the drive technology, are being replaced with energy-efficient and more powerful successor models. These measures not only increase the reliability of the plant but also optimize its energy consumption and maintenance requirements.

In addition, the capacity of the conveyor system is being significantly expanded: The targeted expansion of the rail network and the deployment of 60 additional EMS vehicles will achieve greater flexibility and efficiency in production. This will enable BMW to meet future production requirements even better and significantly increase the overall performance of the door assembly plant.

Three plant holidays are available for the extensive renovation work. During these periods, the project will be implemented with the utmost precision and efficiency to ensure the smooth integration of the new components into ongoing operations.

With this contract, the AFT Group once again underscores its expertise in the modernization of highly complex conveyor systems and makes a decisive contribution to securing the future of the Leipzig site.
